This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
 

DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility

HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

LOCATION: 3000 Arctic Boulevard


Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.
 

 

Example of Duties

Respond to field emergency situations and requests for water and wastewater services, inspections, locates, and emergency utility failures. Review engineered plans for the issuance of utility permits. Schedule appointments, field investigations, and inspections. Dispatch field personnel. Initiate online service orders. Establish the basis for the new accounts. Keep associated connect records and logs. Perform data entry in support of meter repair service orders and the Cross Connection Control Program (backflow prevention). Perform other required duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, code enforcement, and/or a related field, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician I level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

Associate’s degree in Engineering, Drafting, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or a discipline specific to the department, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician I level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.

Must possess and/or obtain:

Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history. 

Must possess the ability to:

Operate automated permits system, customer information & billing system, digital broadband radio base station, MapOptix (geospatial), work management system, personal computer, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, telephone and fax, copier/scanner/printer, calculator, Microfiche reader/printer.

Preference:

Valid State of Alaska driver's license.
