Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

 

DEPARTMENT: Public Works
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore Road

 

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

Under general supervision, participate as a member of the Office Support Team by checking for and suggesting proper formatting, grammar, spelling and content of all documents presented to the Team for processing; creating and explaining to others the correct use of templates, MS Word track changes and letters and mailing functions, MS Outlook calendar sharing and task functions, and electronic and hard copy filing and archiving. Greet public, answer telephones and make referrals. Assist with data entry of bid tabs, utility database, and weight tickets. Prepare and mail out distributions and Insulated Streets Updates. Prepare Assembly documents and enter into OnBase system. Act for other office administrative staff when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in office clerical work. 

OR

Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems, or similar discipline and experience in office clerical work.

Must possess and/or obtain:

  • Ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM.
  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
