Reykjavík, Iceland – (9 Nov 2024) – Experience Alaska’s untamed music scene at Iceland Airwaves! Anchorage Music City is pleased to announce an extraordinary Alaskan music showcase and welcoming reception during the renowned Iceland Airwaves music festival at Reykjavík’s venue NASA (Thorvaldsenstraeti 2, Reykjavík, Iceland 101), on Saturday 9 Nov 2024 from 18:00-22:30. This is the first-ever music trade mission from Anchorage to Reykjavík showcasing the unique and diverse musical talents emerging from Alaska. Presented by ANCHORAGE MUSIC CITY and DOG YARD RECORDS (a not-for-profit record label) promoting Alaska’s world class music scene to Iceland Airwaves festivalgoers and IA Conference attendees.
Anchorage, Alaska is rapidly gaining recognition as a hotbed of undiscovered music talent. Situated on the fringes of society and enduring long, dark winters, Anchorage's unique geographic and cultural position - being in the only U.S. state that touches the circumpolar north - infuses its music scene with a distinctive edge. Iceland Airwaves festival says of Alaska’s music scene: “This incredible state is home to a treasure trove of undiscovered musical talent…” Recently, the Alaskan music scene has produced notable acts such as Portugal. The Man, Medium Build, and Quinn Christopherson - further establishing its reputation for producing exceptional talent. Anchorage Music City and partners proudly present three Alaskan musical acts at Iceland Airwaves 2024:
Air Jazz - Afro-Indigenous and Alaska Native [Tlingit] hip hop from Juneau, AK
SunDog - psych-pop rock trio from Anchorage, AK
Casey Smith Project - a genre-defying act from Fairbanks, AK
The welcoming reception and showcase at NASA is open to all Iceland Airwaves Festival wristband holders and IA Conference attendees. Participants are encouraged to arrive early to meet and mingle with the Alaskan delegation at this unique exchange opportunity.
