JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — Construction at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson’s Muldoon Gate, extending to the roundabout on Provider Drive, will begin on July 22. The gate is estimated to reopen the morning of Sept. 3, 2024.

These areas will be closed to install a new canopy over the Muldoon Gate, traffic calming devices at the gate, and modifications to the roundabout medians.

“The canopy will protect our defenders from the elements and provide better lighting at the gate,” said Scott Adams, 673d Civil Engineering Squadron supervisory engineer. “The new traffic-calming devices will allow for easier navigation through the gate while still providing a secure and safe route on and off JBER.”

The roundabout modifications will increase safety and improve traffic flow in the north- and southbound lanes.

Commuters will only be able to access the JBER hospital, Fisher House, and the JBER family camping area from Zeamer Avenue.

Access to housing through the south side of Wilkins Avenue will not be affected.
