Josh Bourgouin recently joined R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. (R&M) as a Staff Engineer in the firm’s Site Development Group. In this position, Josh will assist with design of site development projects throughout Alaska. This includes site layout, vehicle and pedestrian access, ADA access, driveways and parking, signing and striping, grading and drainage, stormwater analysis and management, and water and sewer utility services connections.

“Josh came to R&M with a solid site development background and was able to pick up some current projects and advance them efficiently. He quickly became a team player, helping to get several projects delivered on time to our clients. In his first week, he participated in a site visit to King Salmon, where he impressed the client and team members,” said Chris Black, PE, CESCL, Group Manager of Site Development. “Josh is a reliable self-starter who often surprises me with how quickly accomplishes tasks with a high level of quality. In his short time here, he has made numerous friends at R&M and I am proud to have him as a team member.”

Josh has two years of engineering experience. A recent transfer to Alaska, he comes to R&M from Houston, Texas where he worked on residential site development projects. This included designing and creating construction plans for multi-acre single family home developments. Josh’s experience includes lot and street layouts, grading, storm drainage design, detention basin design, roadway designs, storm calculations, construction cost estimates and utility designs. He is skilled in the use of Civil 3D and excels in communicating with clients and agencies.

“I chose R&M based on recommendations from family and friends, as well as an interest in the type of work done at R&M,” said Josh. “It has also given me the opportunity to move to Alaska, which has always been a dream of mine!”

Since joining R&M, Josh has supported design of site development and utility projects, such as airport snow removal equipment buildings in King Salmon, Seward and False Pass; the new Metarvik K-12 School; and several utility substations. He has assisted in performing site layouts, design of water and sanitation systems, site grading and storm drain systems.

“At R&M I hope to become a more developed engineer while exploring the Alaska wilderness,” said Josh. “I want to keep working towards my PE license, as well as create mutually beneficial relationships with clients and coworkers.”

Josh has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University. Outside of work, he can be found spending time with his wife and dog, trying to improve his hunting skills or cheering on the Mississippi State Bulldogs, HailState! Josh also enjoys camping, hiking, fishing, cooking and traveling.

Founded in Alaska in 1969, R&M offers civil, structural, geotechnical and waterfront engineering; surveying and mapping; GIS services; geology; hydrology; environmental services; transportation and land use planning; public involvement; right of way and lands consulting services; construction administration; materials testing; and special inspection.
