Jason Johnston, PE and Trevor Copple Join R&M
Jason Johnston, PE and Trevor Copple recently joined R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. (R&M). Jason is a Senior Project Engineer in the firm’s Surface Transportation Group, where he will provide planning, design and construction administration services for civil and transportation infrastructure projects across Alaska. Trevor is an Environmental Geologist in the firm’s Geosciences Group, where he supports environmental and geotechnical investigations
Jason brings more than 20 years of civil engineering experience to R&M, with a background that includes federal service and consulting. He has led design and construction for a wide variety of complex infrastructure projects, including a $40 million airport construction in Kaktovik, wastewater treatment facilities in Denali, and road and bridge projects across the state. His expertise spans from bridge and building structural design to contract administration, program management and environmental compliance.
“I came to R&M to be part of a team of great people with a great reputation and to learn and grow my abilities as an engineer,” said Jason. “I hope to add value to R&M by bringing my knowledge and experience to the table to help solve the complex problems of clients and to develop new opportunities for the folks who work here.”
Before joining R&M, Jason served as a Supervisory Civil Engineer for the USDA Forest Service, where he managed a team of engineers and oversaw structural and transportation projects. He has also held roles with the National Park Service, is an FHWA-certified bridge inspection team leader and was a top-tier Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR III) for the Federal Government doing contract administration. His past projects reflect a deep commitment to public service and infrastructure that meets Alaska’s unique challenges. Jason holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Montana State University. He is a Professional Civil Engineer registered in Alaska and an Alaska Registered Guide-Outfitter. In addition to his professional achievements, Jason is an FAA-certified private pilot and operates Johnston Alaskan Outfitters, a hunting guide business. He lives in Chugiak with his wife and three sons, and enjoys flying, hunting, fishing and hiking.
Trevor brings more than five years of experience in environmental consulting and geologic investigations, having worked across the western United States. His previous roles included managing field teams, preparing technical reports and coordinating with clients on complex environmental projects. His skills also include stormwater management, spill response and remediation, and oil and gas decommissioning.
“I joined R&M to broaden my experience across diverse environmental projects and sharpen my skills in oil and gas remediation,” said Trevor. “My goal is to put my expertise to work protecting the natural beauty of the state I now proudly call home.”
Trevor’s background aligns with R&M’s high standard of producing high-quality work products that meet client and regulatory needs. He is adept in ArcGIS, with working knowledge of gINT and OpenGround software, tools integral to planning and reporting within the firm.
Trevor holds a M.S. in Geology from the Colorado School of Mines, a B.S. in Petroleum Geology from Oklahoma State University and an A.S. in Environmental Geology from Salt Lake Community College. He is HAZWOPER 40-Hour certified and a certified Asbestos Building Inspector. Trevor is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Geological Society of America and Society of Economic Geologists. Outside of work, Trevor enjoys hiking, biking, camping, exploring geothermal energy topics and is an avid fan of Lego product design. He counts “The Count of Monte Cristo” among his favorite books and is always on the lookout for his next great outdoor adventure.
