The Anchorage School District offers juniors and seniors opportunities to experience an internship in specific career and technical education (CTE) fields. Students participating in the internship program must meet specific guidelines and then be partnered with a business that is interested in providing internship experience over the summer. The mentor (business partner), the student, and the CTE teacher collaborate to develop goals for the student that build upon the foundations the student has learned in the classroom. These experiences include activities and projects that expose the student to real-life work situations and the latest information and technology in the field.

Summer internships last nine weeks. Internships during the school year can stretch 10-14 weeks. Weekly internship hours are flexible and are determined by the mentor and student, usually after school, during in-service days, or sometimes on weekends.

Internships can be paid, though the majority are unpaid, and students receive a semester credit for completing the program. There are currently 66 students eligible and interested in a summer internship opportunity.

Students are seeking experience in a variety of fields, including engineering, veterinary medicine, health care, forensic science, and more. Internships start May 27th.

Businesses interested in supporting an internship opportunity for a local high school are encouraged to contact Bert Lord, CTE Coordinator, CTE Internship Manager with the Anchorage School District for more info or visit asdk12.org/cte/internships.
