Alaska’s latest and most exciting new spa experience opened its doors to the public Thursday, April 14, boasting an expansive 50,000 square-foot indoor and outdoor space, in the year-round mountain resort town of Girdwood, Alaska. The spa retreat is opening in phases and will feature the state’s first and only outdoor hydrotherapy facility (a series of hot, warm and cold outdoor pools), multiple saunas and steam rooms, wellness classes and more, all nestled at the base of Alyeska Resort.
“We’re thrilled to finally welcome guests to experience the blissful and unique offerings of a Nordic spa in Alaska,” said Melissa LaRose, General Manager of Alyeska Nordic Spa. “The spa seamlessly integrates within the stunning and tranquil northern rainforest, offering an ideal space to relax and reconnect with nature, yourself, and others. We are immensely proud to share this all-encompassing wellness experience.”
Phase 1 of Alyeska Nordic Spa is now open for adults ages 18 and older, featuring three warm and hot hydrotherapy pools, three cold pools including cold plunge and waterfall, and the Signature sauna. Enjoy massage therapy and Two Trees Bistro, an inspired dining experience focused on local offerings and a curated menu by Chef Wes Choy. The bistro offers a wonderful selection of, wine, cocktails, and wellness oriented beverages.
Phase 2, opening this summer, expands the wellness experience to include a Finnish sauna and Aromatherapy infused steam rooms. A third and final phase is scheduled to open later in the year, adding an elevated boardwalk through the Chugach Forest, six wooden tubs, two Alaskan barrel saunas, and two Banya saunas.
Massage therapy appointments are located indoors and available today. The 60-minute sessions include options like couples’ treatment, aromatherapy, CBD oil, and deep tissue focus. A signature service that incorporates the heritage of hydrotherapy wellness is also available. All massage therapy appointments include access to the hydrotherapy experience.
Open year-round, the spa gives Alaskans and visitors alike an opportunity to experience the Nordic tradition of hydrotherapy, a health ritual Nordic people have practiced for thousands of years. Guests can cycle through stages of submersion in hot and cold water at their leisure, moving between the initial hot pools to stimulate blood flow and relax muscles, to cold, with the cold plunge waterfall to flush the body of toxins.
Additional luxury amenities enjoyed at Alyeska Nordic Spa include cozy lounging areas, outdoor heated walkways, fleece-lined bathrobes, an exfoliation cabin to finish a hydrotherapy session, and a bistro with a menu inspired by the spa’s lush surroundings and fresh Alaska ingredients.
“No matter the season, there are not many locations in the world as stunning as the nature surrounding Alyeska Resort,” said Ryan Pomeroy, CEO of Pomeroy Lodging “We designed the Nordic Spa to feel as connected to the forest as possible, using natural materials and open spaces for an immersive experience.”
The Nordic Spa can be visited for a day of wellness but is also the perfect complement to a stay at Alyeska Resort and ski lift tickets for the ultimate Alaska getaway.
