Under the guidance of the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Development is responsible for cultivating, securing, and stewarding relationships with corporate, foundation, and individual donors to maximize philanthropic investment in Girl Scouts of Alaska (GSAK). This role will focus on expanding and diversifying GSAK's donor base to secure funding for both new and existing initiatives. The Director will be expected to meet or exceed fundraising goals to ensure GSAK’s financial sustainability. Additionally, the Director will foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization and advocate for GSAK’s mission.  The position supervises the Development Specialist and works in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment. The Director reports to the CEO and works closely with internal stakeholders, including the board, fundraising committees, and other departments, and builds relationships with diverse Alaskan communities.

This position is based out of our Anchorage, Alaska Office and the pay starts at $70,000 annually.

 

To be successful in this position:

You Are:

  • Committed to the policies and mission of the Girl Scout organization and willing to become a Girl Scout member.
  • Committed to adhering to the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) fundraising code of ethics and the Donor Bill of Rights. 
  • Skilled at developing and maintaining effective working relationships with volunteers, board members, and staff. 
  • An effective communicator, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Highly organized and capable of managing a multifaceted workload. 
  • A strong representative of GSAK, engaging with donors and volunteers through speaking engagements, meetings, and written communications. 
  • Proficient in building volunteer networks and serving as a liaison to community groups and funders. 
  • Able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and departments to achieve shared goals and objectives and contribute to big-picture goals.
  • Available for occasional night and weekend work, dependent on organizational needs.

You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience.
  • Proven experience in successful fundraising or development with progressive responsibilities.
  • Understanding of the mission and vision of Girl Scouts and the ability to share this mission and vision with the general public.
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credential preferred.
  • Experience managing campaigns, grants, and multiple projects.
  • Experience with capital campaigns preferred.
  • Access to automobile in working condition. Proof of meeting state requirements regarding auto licensing, driver's license, and liability insurance.

  You Will:

  • Lift and carry at least 35 lbs.
  • Complete an annual background check.
