This is an executive position (no union affiliation) and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor of the Municipality of Anchorage.
DEPARTMENT: Office of the Mayor
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekends are possible.
LOCATION OF WORK: 632 W. 6th Avenue, Suite 840.
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Example of Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to provide the full range of administrative and clerical support to the Mayor's Office, including providing high-level financial support for contracting and purchasing for the Mayor's Office consistent with purchasing rules using SAP, as well as to provide contracting and purchasing support for the mayor's community and arts grants; conduct routine budget input and reporting; provide support for mayor appointments to boards and commissions, and staff support to certain boards and commissions in the Mayor's Office. The secondary purpose of the position is to serve as records manager and assist in responding to and filling public records requests, and respond to appeals of denials of records requests on behalf of the mayor; draft routine correspondence, mayoral proclamations, other documents; serve as one of the points of contact for external constituent communications to the Mayor's Office, and backs up receptionist/staff assistant; may serve as backup for scheduling for the Mayor and Chief of Staff. Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and six (6) years of experience specific to the position.
OR
Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Accounting or a similar discipline and four (4) years of experience specific to the position.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Accounting or a similar discipline and two (2) years of experience specific to the position
OR
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Accounting or a similar discipline and experience specific to the position.
Preferences:
- Valid state of Alaska Driver's License.
- Experience as a receptionist, administrative assistant, scheduler.
- Experience with processing purchase orders and contracts in SAP.
- Experience processing and filing records.
- Experience with boards or commissions.
