Position Summary
The Communications and Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in connecting the community to United Way of Anchorage’s mission through events and volunteer opportunities. This position plans and coordinates a range of experiences—from community fundraisers and donor stewardship events to volunteer projects with staff and corporate partners—that build relationships and inspire support. As a member of the Marketing and Communications team, the Coordinator also supports digital outreach by helping manage social media, update online content, and contribute to broader communications efforts.

Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Engagement (40% estimated time spent in this area)
- Develop and implement volunteer engagement strategies that align with organizational goals, community needs, and United Way Worldwide Volunteer Engagement best practices.
- Serve as the primary contact for volunteer inquiries, onboarding, and relationship building, while collaborating with community partners to create and promote meaningful opportunities.
- Maintain and promote the use of the volunteer database, track outcomes, and improve the volunteer experience through feedback, surveys, and process updates
- Collaborate with the Development team, support outreach efforts to engage donors in volunteer opportunities and cultivate volunteers as potential donors.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications team members, develop effective volunteer messaging that supports recruitment, engagement, and retention.
- Promote staff participation in volunteer opportunities as a tool for team building and giving back to the community.
- Coordinate all United Way event logistics and serve as the primary event contact.
- Support the development of event budgets and manage expenses in alignment with organizational goals and approved budget parameters.
- Prepare venue contracts and related documents for review and signature by the President & CEO and the Director of Marketing and Communications.
- Identify community events for United Way participation; coordinate staffing and prepare event materials.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications team members, ensure event messaging is engaging, accurate, and designed to maximize participation.
- Manage UWA’s social channels, including scheduling posts, coordinating with team members to prepare content, monitoring activity, and responding to comments.
- Support the Content Marketing?Manager by updating website blogs, internal platforms, and third-party listings (e.g. Google?Business, Candid).
- Ensure consistency in voice and alignment with United Way’s brand across all digital engagement efforts.

- 3–5?years of progressively responsible experience in volunteer coordination, event planning, community relations, or project management.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple events and volunteer projects, including budgeting, vendor relations, and on-site execution.
- Hands-on experience with volunteer or CRM databases and with common social scheduling/monitoring tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft?365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort learning new platforms quickly; basic Canva is a plus.
- Excellent written, verbal, and public-speaking skills; able to craft clear presentations and speak confidently to small and large groups.
- Availability for occasional evening or weekend events and the ability to lift or move up to 25?lbs during event setup/teardown.
- Valid Alaska driver’s license (or ability to obtain) and reliable transportation for off-site events and volunteer projects.
- Salary: $53,000 - $63,000 DOE
