Event Description:

The pandemic affected all businesses in 2020 and now going into 2021. As the state's largest locally-owned, certified accounting firm turns "30", partners and staff share their insights into the effects of the pandemic, from the PPP loan forgiveness program to tax implications and how those will impact Alaska businesses in 2021 and into the future.
 



All virtual Monday forums will now be hosted via Remo. We'll have networking beginning at 11:30 am. The presentation will begin at Noon.

Before the event:


Brian Kupilik, CPA- Audit Principal
Brian Kupilik (Certificate #2290) is a shareholder in our audit department responsible for governmental and nonprofit audit reports and fieldwork. He joined Altman, Rogers & Company in July 2005. Brian has a master’s degree in accounting, majoring in business. He graduated from Montana State University with honors in May 2005. Brian is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as the Alaska Society of CPA’s.

Brian works closely with our governmental and non-profit clients advising them in the best business practices as well as areas to strengthen and improve internal control systems within each client’s specific organization. As an active member of his community, Brian routinely volunteers with many of the non-profits we serve as clients as well as other non-profits within the community. He serves as the treasurer for the Alaska Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and has been a board member for the past 3-4 years.

Ryan Johns, CPA- Tax Principal
Ryan Johns (Certificate #2723) is a shareholder in the Anchorage office. He originally joined Altman, Rogers & Company in 2012, working on both audit and tax engagements and then returned to the firm in September 2016 as a Tax Manager. He has been working in public accounting since 2009 and has been practicing as a licensed CPA since 2014. While he has a background in tax-exempt, corporate, and individual tax compliance and planning, he specializes in pass-through entity taxation such as S-corporations and Partnerships.

Ryan graduated from Western Washington University, where he received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in professional accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Alaska Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Katie Stachow, CPA - Anchorage Audit Manager
Katie Stachow is a licensed CPA by the State of Alaska (Certificate #2762) and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) as well as the Alaska Society of CPAs. She joined Altman, Rogers & Co. in June 2009. Katie has a BA degree in professional accountancy and public administration. She graduated from the Carroll College in May 2009. She is responsible for managing financial statement report writing and audit field work.

Katie volunteers locally with organizations supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities.  In addition to community service, she specializes in consulting clients on efficient and effective internal control policies and procedures. She also has worked with numerous clients in consulting on charts of accounts and transitions in accounting software. Katie also provides consulting services on a number of matters including assisting attorneys in litigation proceedings involving accounting matters.

Katie serves on the finance council for the Archdiocese of Anchorage and sits on the board of directors for the Alaska Birth Collective.

Katie is certified as Advanced in Federal Single Audits by the AICPA.

Monica Reid, CPA- Audit Supervisor 
Monica Reid (Certificate #138022) is an audit supervisor in the Anchorage office.  Ms. Reid joined Altman, Rogers & Co. in September 2016 in our Soldotna location and gained experience in both audit and tax.  She completed her college education from the University of Montana with both a Master’s Degree and Bachelor of Science in Accounting in July 2016 and May 2015, respectively.  In June of 2018, she pursued audit full time and moved to Anchorage.  As an auditor, she primarily performs audit fieldwork and financial report writing for governmental and non-profit entities and is proficient in State and Federal Single Audits.  Additionally, she is knowledgeable in construction accounting as she has performed reviews and compilations for general contractors during her time in Soldotna and has continued this experience in Anchorage.  In 2020, Monica spearheaded the firm’s efforts to assist local businesses with the CARES Act’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), from the initial application process to the loan forgiveness application.
