The Department of the Army is required to reduce its end strength from 570k to 450k personnel by 2017. The Army is sending a delegation of five key personnel to Alaska to hear comments from the public of possible impacts to our community.
Alaska is too strategically important to the Army’s mission to justify the elimination of the 4-25th Airborne Infantry Brigade at JBER and the 1st Stryker Brigade at Ft. Wainwright.
With a reduction of over 11,000 troops and nearly 19,000 dependents, Alaska could incur a loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in payrolls and contract expenditures if these force reductions take place.
The community support, quality of life, job opportunities, educational offerings, quality healthcare and many other benefits are excellent reasons the Army should not choose these bases as targets for force reduction.
Please join the Anchorage Chamber and community partners in a presentation of support to avoid a potential elimination!
