Event Description:

Learn about the variety of Education and Employment services Nine Star provides. Discover how one of Nine Star’s programs focuses on the reduction and prevention of homelessness and potentially saved the government over $5 million dollars without using public funds. The presentation will discuss how the business community has been a key factor in moving adults and youth from challenges to triumphs and how business can contribute to the prevention of homelessness in Anchorage.

MEET THE PANELISTS

Ruth Schoenleben journeyed to Alaska from Minnesota in 1971 to help build a church. She was inspired by a passion to help Alaskans succeed in every area of their lives so she moved to Yakutat in 1973 and on to Anchorage in 1988. Ruth is the President & CEO of Nine Star Education & Employment Services, an agency that works to improve the quality of life for the under- and unemployed while at the same time preventing and reducing the homeless footprint in Alaska. She has served youth and adults in various training, management, and program development capacities at Nine Star for nearly three decades. With her husband, she has co-pastored three Alaskan churches; founded a teen center and a rural radio station; and raised a family of two children and four grandchildren. She is regarded for her personable approach as well as her memorable training techniques. Ruth has served on numerous community boards and coalitions and currently serves as a Board Director on the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness and is a Commissioner on the Serve Alaska Commission.

Sharon Pulou-Isaako directs the daily operations of Nine Star’s Career Development Centers. She and her staff helped nearly 3,000 Alaskans go to work in FY ’18. She connects job seekers to employment through job fairs, one-on-one connections, the Department of Labor, and community events. She adheres strongly to Nine Star’s Vision of “delivering services that prevent homelessness and improve the quality of life for all Alaskans.”

Roger Hamacher brings 28 years of experience in working with at-risk youth so they will reach employment and educational success. He has an established track record of coordinating services with employers, educators in both long and short term training programs. Mr. Hamacher is recognized for his extensive understanding of the WIOA youth grant and for his creative integration of client services within Nine Star and externally with the community. He energetically endorses Nine Star’s Philosophy of Care: Compassion, Excellence, & Collaboration.

Kaleem Nuriddin offers Nine Star clients, staff and leadership team the benefit of more than 20 years of accomplishments working with adults in employment and training. He strongly believes individuals have unique patterns of motivated skills, interests, and abilities, which makes them an asset to an employer. Mr. Nuriddin is a co-director for Nine Star’s Work Services program and oversees employment services for over 3,000 individuals. In that role his focus is on Nine Star’s Mission to help Alaskans Get a Job, Keep a Job, & Advance on the Job.
