Anchorage Assembly Chair Suzanne LaFrance will give an annual progress report on the Assembly’s work over the past year, which included passing legislation to cut red tape and incentivize housing construction, securing funding from the legislature for the Port of Alaska Modernization, funding the police and fire mobile crisis teams to go to 24/7 service, increasing funds for snow plowing, and investing federal relief funds in community projects for a stronger, more vibrant Anchorage.

Suzanne LaFrance represents District 6, South Anchorage, Girdwood, Turnagain Arm. She was elected in 2017 and has served as Assembly Chair since July 2021. As the Chair of the Assembly, her focus has been to expand public safety and mental health services, make considerable investments in housing, improve access to Chugach State Park and local parks, and ensure accessible and effective local government. She is also passionate about our libraries.
LaFrance grew up in Palmer, Alaska and has lived in South Anchorage since 1997. She and her husband, Dave Hemstreet, have three children. Through the years, Suzanne has spent much of her time volunteering for local organizations such as Hospice, the Alaskan Literacy Program, her children’s schools and the Boy Scouts. She received her BA from the University of Portland and her MA from Purdue University.
