The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) and the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) share a common purpose — to promote, develop, and advance the general prosperity and economic welfare for Alaskans. Established by the Alaska State Legislature in 1967 and 1976, respectively, AIDEA fulfills its mission by making investments and offering financing tools to communities and businesses while AEA carries out its mission of reducing the cost of energy in Alaska by diversifying the state’s energy portfolio, engaging in energy planning and policy, and investing in Alaska’s energy infrastructure.

Alan Weitzner is the executive director of the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA), the State of Alaska’s economic development finance authority. He was appointed to this position in August 2020 after serving in the role of chief investment officer since 2018.

Prior to joining AIDEA, Weitzner’s served in various leadership roles in project financing and financial management of global infrastructure projects. He has advised and structured over $16 billion in debt underwritings, equity capitalizations, and project developments for energy, gas infrastructure, and port facilities in the United States and internationally. Weitzner holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from the University of Texas at Austin.

As AIDEA’s executive director, he is focused on listening to Alaska’s communities and businesses to understand their unique economic development needs.

Curtis W. Thayer is the executive director of the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA), the State of Alaska’s energy office and lead agency for statewide energy policy and program development. Prior to AEA, Thayer served as president and chief executive officer of the Alaska Chamber, the largest state trade association.

Previous to that position, he served as Commissioner for the Department of Administration and as a cabinet member for Governor Sean Parnell, and working in Washington, D.C. with Congressman Don Young and Senators Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski.

Thayer worked on the management team of ENSTAR Natural Gas Company and for the Alaska Gas Producers Pipeline Team.

Thayer has served on boards at Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, Alaska Gasline Development Corporation, Alaska Retirement Management Board, Alaska Royalty Oil and Gas Development Advisory Board, U.S. Chambers’ Committee of 100, and currently chairs the Alaska Board of Marine Pilots.

A life-long Alaskan, Thayer is a graduate of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is married.
