James Brooks is a longtime Alaska reporter, having previously worked at the Anchorage Daily News, Juneau Empire, Kodiak Mirror and Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. A graduate of Virginia Tech, he is married and has a daughter, owns a house in Juneau and has a small sled dog named Barley.
Jeff Landfield moved to Alaska in 2004 from New Mexico when he was 19 looking for an adventure. He graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2009 with a BA in history and minor in economics. After college, he spent seven years working in IT and telecom sales. He became concerned about the budget and state spending in 2011 and decided to run for the State Senate in 2012, unsuccessfully. He tried again in 2016, which did not work out for him at all. He spent the majority of 2017 working and traveling in Australia. When he returned, he started the Alaska Landmine, a political news website. He has spent every session in Juneau since 2019 covering the Legislature. In 2021, he started the Alaska Political Report, a subscription-based newsletter that provides detailed coverage of the state budget and politics.
