Name: 6th Annual Bettye Davis African American Healthy Families Summit
Date: February 8, 2025
Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM AKST
Event Description:

Continuing the legacy of the late state senator Bettye Davis, the Alaska Black Caucus proudly presents the annual Bettye Davis African American Summit. This event brings together the Black community and other people of color in conversation and action to make Alaska a better place for everyone.

This year’s theme is "Healthy Families," and we have an exciting lineup of sessions and speakers planned. Featured speakers include Alaska U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan, renowned multicultural artist and speaker Alex Boyé, who will address the importance of self-talk in enhancing quality of life; Grammy Award-winning singer Jay King, who also serves as the President of the California Black Chamber; and Jacqueline Hendricks, the first-ever Inspector General for the City of Columbus.

Opportunities to Get Involved:
  • Advertising: Showcase your business or organization in our anniversary booklet, which will be distributed to all attendees. This is a great opportunity to reach a diverse audience committed to community empowerment.
  • Vendor Booths: Set up a booth at the summit to connect with attendees and share your products or services.
  • Sponsorship: Become a sponsor to demonstrate your commitment to equity, equality, and justice within our community.
Your participation will not only help us honor Senator Davis’s legacy but also contribute to vital discussions around education, advocacy, community building, and policy issues affecting Black communities and other marginalized groups in Alaska.

Senator Bettye Davis (1938-2018) was a dedicated advocate for children and made history as the first elected African American woman in the Alaska State House of Representatives. She was also the first Black individual to be elected as a State Senator. Her legacy continues to inspire us as we work toward progress and unity. The summit serves as a platform for education, advocacy, and community engagement, promoting dialogue on essential issues and empowering individuals to take meaningful action.

We believe that by coming together, we can build a more inclusive and equitable society for all Alaskans. Join us in carrying forward Senator Davis’s mission to uplift our community and advocate for meaningful change.
